At 10 years old I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show and knew then I wanted to make my living playing guitar. By 12 I started my first band. At 18 I joined the Yearsley Brother's Blues Band playing all over Ohio. At 21 I studied under jazz guitarist Sandy Devito for 2 years in Seminole Florida.
Throughout this time I also played as a solo act in local pubs and coffee houses in the Tampa Bay area. Also at this time I worked with another one of Sandy's students in the Mike Hoke Duo. After returning to Ohio I played as a solo act, taught guitar, and started a dance band called Special Edition. We played 6 nights a week in motel lounges and clubs for 8 years. Wanting to play more rock and blues oriented music, I formed my first of three trios all under the name Nite Shift playing 4 to 6 nights a week.
During this time I was teaching guitar at Lively Music in Piqua Ohio 5 days a week for 13 years. I then moved to Sound City Music in Troy Ohio teaching 5 days a week for 16 years, averaging 55 students a week. I went on to work with a great band called Main Event who I spent 2 years with. After that, I was very fortunate to work every Saturday Night for 2 years with the great jazz guitarist Kent Burnside at Captains Point in Lakeview Ohio. I had a student (Scott Bridges) who after studying with me attended the Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood California. When he returned to Ohio, I recruited him and form "The Duo" combining Jazz and Blues instrumental music which lasted 10 years. I spent 2022 and 2023 studying under jazz guitarist Martin Taylor. I am currently concentrating on playing solo in Fine Dining restaurants, corporate gigs, and private parties, 2 or 3 days a week. I currently teach 2 days a week from my personal studio. I have been blessed to be doing this now for 40 plus years.
